President Update

I think we should move forward on the web site request that Warren had. Dan O'Brien had an idea on the Track & Field National Championships in late June. Dan will find out if he can pull this off within the next couple of weeks. We can allocate money to help fund some type of reception or event. If the Track & Field event does not pan out, we can use the money for a last minute MU Alumni Happy Hour and purchase appetizers for the group

Be an Online Mentor

......And help the chapter reach an objective towards next years chapter status!!! We need (4) more volunteers for this to count toward our chapter status. I signed up for this last year. The sign up process is easy and recently had someone email me with a few questions. While I was not able to help the person, I was able to give them another contact that could help them.

If you want to help the chapter by offering to help other Mizzou grads, GREAT!!!. You must be a registered user of Mizzou.com. (If you have not signed up, this is painless also) Once you are registered at Mizzou.com, plug in http://www.mizzou.com/sumentoring.html and follow the directions. If you decide to take the plunge, please let me know. The chapter needs to make sure the Alumni office associates your volunteer efforts toward our chapter.

Student Recruitment

INDIANA SCHOLARSHIP

The Indiana Mizzou Crew chapter has a $1,000 scholarship that we will award to an Indiana student. The student must be a freshman in the fall of 2007.

To be a candidate for the scholarship, the student must:

  1. Apply and be accepted to Mizzou.
  2. Achieve a minimum score of 26 ACT OR top 20% of graduating class.
    For Indiana students the SAT is acceptable in lieu of the ACT. Missouri looks at the verbal & math scores for a SAT number (combine them). A 26 ACT is equal to 1180 SAT. This is without the new SAT essay portion.
  3. Enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester your freshman year.
  4. Achieve a minimum GPA of 2.75/ 12 hrs. during freshman fall semester.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Beginning October 1st, applications will be available at the www.mizzou.com web site. You can also get information from the local Mizzou Crew Chapter. Marianne Fenton, mfenton@iquest.net or 317-293-4798. Completed applications are due into the Mizzou Crew no later than January 25th so we can get the information into the alumni office by February 1, 2006. More information will be in the next newsletter. After all the applications are received at the alumni office, the representatives from the Mizzou Crew will conduct interviews.

Additional Info for Future Mizzou Tigers

There are (2) different type of automatic scholarships granted by the University of Missouri:
Mark Twain Non Resident Scholarship

  • Class Rank in top 25%
  • ACT 27-29 or SAT 1200-1300 = $4,000 Scholarship
  • ACT 30-36 or SAT 1320-1600 = $ 5,500 Scholarship

    MIZZOU Heritage Scholarship

  • 27 ACT, Top 25% Class Rank, and a biological or adoptive parent who graduated from MU
  • OUT-OF-STATE FEE WAIVER

There are other scholarship opportunities too!

National Merit Scholarship

  • $1,000 - $2000 per year plus out of state fee waiver Automatic Departmental Scholarships
  • College of Engineering - $2,000 Freshman Engineering Scholarship
    30 ACT Composite, 30 ACT Math Sub-Score and top 10% class
  • College of Engineering - $1,000 Freshman Engineering Scholarship
    28 ACT Composite, 28 ACT Math Sub-Score and top 15% class
